Allison Ranelle Brown

1976 - 2020

Allison showed us the world that is possible as a mother, daughter, sister, friend, and racial justice advocate. We honor her by dedicating ourselves to her lifelong work, to build a system of education that is safe, healthy, equitable, and nurturing for Black children.

Allison’s Life and Legacy

On February 8, 1976, I was blessed with one of the most beautiful babies I had ever seen at the time. Her dad and I named her Allison Ranelle Brown. That beautiful baby grew up to be a young woman who worked diligently for the rights of others. – Ann Brown (Allison’s mother)

Mothering is a privilege. Somehow, I was chosen. To walk with my kids from before their beginning and protect them as they traverse this arduous terrain that is life. I give them all that I have of me, and in turn I get to know these very special human beings, to be close to them, nurture them.

How Allison Inspires Us

Allison was clear about the side she was on - the freedom side. She fought for education justice for Black and Brown children, and an end to policing, cages, and toxic classrooms (Thena Robinson Mock)
